PDCC #179 Color Challenge and Fashionable Stamping Challenge #46 ~ A kind word...Mixed Media Page

It's another FAB colorful week at Play Date Cafe and I chose to play with Mixed Media!  The color challenge asked us to use Grass, Rose Petal, and Hibiscus.  I am also linking to
Fashionable Stamping Challenges #46 where you need to focus on the sentiment.
Here is my mixed media art journal page:

I broke out some new to me Hero Arts stamps and just painted and inked away in my new
 5 1/2 x 8 art journal!
I used the colors and LOTS of dots because that is what stood out to me in the image.

I used my Martha Stewart grain striping comb to make a canvas texture in my first base layer of paint.

I used some tiny dark brown pearls in the main flower center.  You can't really tell but I used some modeling paste on the large pink flower to give it added dimension.  I also colored in the flowers with paints to make them stand out and then stamped and inked to bring the lined edges back in for definition.

The doodling is rub-ons.  The text is from a Tim Holtz Christmas set!  I LOVE the font and you can't read the words anyway!  I use it all the time!

The orange is a pearl paint.  I even added dots around the sentiment.

This next is a canvas I used my left over paint on!  I didn't want to waste the paint and realized I could just use this canvas for my next project!  Hmmmmmmm!!!!!

These are the main products I used:

My last comment before signing off...  so many of you have expressed interest in Mixed Media but are a little overwhelmed and don't know where to start.  Now that I have used the Martha Stewart paints (thanks Mona for telling me about them!), I think I would buy the boxed sets with a coupon at Michaels and go from there.  The colors are so Pretty and they co-ordinate well.  Plus they are affordable.

Thanks for looking!  I hope you like my journal page!!!

Beautiful job on your journal page! I love the pretty colors. I bought all the stuff to start doing mixed media about a year ago and still have it all sitting in my craft room. I bought about 25 bottles of the MS paints when they were on a great sale. I do love her colors. :)

Thanks so much for the inspiration. I just might have to take all my stuff outside and have a crafty afternoon. :)

Hugs~

WOW -- Mixed Media at its BEST -- sooo pretty, Sue!!! I've purchased none and AM intimidated, but then my sewing bug has kept me broke lately anyway. Thought IF I won some product, I'd give it a try, but for now I'll just ignore this new MM trend, I think! Not as brave as you, I guess!
Thanks too for your sweet comments on my JR GD spot; so appreciated, my Friend!!!
